International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

To mark a century of progress in quantum science, the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2025 to be the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). To celebrate the occasion, governments, professional societies, academic institutions and many others will be sharing the story of quantum science—its past, present and future—with audiences around the world.

JQI is excited to join in the fun, and we will share our events and initiatives here and on our social media channels. Some notable events are:

• "Celebremos el inicio del año internacional del cuanto. Una exploración de la revolución científica y tecnológica con más de cien años de historia," an event featuring JQI Emeritus Fellow Luis Orozco streamed live on Feb. 7, 2025
• "La cuántica, la probabilidad y la información," an event hosted by the Centro Universitario de Guadalajara featuring JQI Emeritus Fellow Luis Orozco. The event streamed live on Feb. 14, 2025.
• "Cómo la cuántica ha cambiado nuestras vidas," a conversation between JQI Emeritus Fellow Luis Orozco and journalist Alfredo Sánchez. The event streamed live on Feb. 21, 2025.
• "Para Medir Bien es mejor usar dos cuantos y no uno," a panel discussion featuring JQI Emeritus Fellow Luis Orozco. The event streamed live on Feb. 24, 2025.
• "¿Ha impactado mi vida la mecánica cuántica?," a public conversation between JQI alumnus Pablo Solano and JQI Emeritus Fellow Luis Orozco. The event streamed live on March 20, 2025.
• The third annual JQI World Quantum Day Reddit AmA on April 14, 2025
• JQI @ Maryland Day on April 26, 2025
• The Schrödinger Sessions: Quantum Information Meets Science Communication, a 2.5-day workshop aimed at providing science communicators with a deeper understanding of quantum science and technology. Host on campus at UMD July 31 -  Aug. 2, 2025.
