Development of a Quantum Photonic Interface for Solid State Qubits

I will describe our recent work towards constructing efficient interfaces between photons and solid state qubits. Towards this end, we recently developed a technique to scan a photonic crystal nanocavity over a surface and deterministically couple it to single emitters. I will discuss the application of this technique to couple the nanocavity to individual nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond, enabling a strong modification of the NV's spontaneous emission spectrum. The NV center enables optical initialization and read-out of electronic spins and form a promising solid state qubit for quantum information science.
